The 12th chapter of this work was published in 1609 as "Liberty of the Seas," but the remaining part was discovered in manuscript in 1864 and published in 1868. After 1607, he became involved in actual politics and diplomacy, but he was soon involved in the political struggle over the theological dispute between the Gomarnites and the Arminians, and while he was sympathetic to the latter, he preached religious tolerance and tried to reconcile the two factions. ...
