A town in Yoshino County, central Nara Prefecture. It occupies the mountainous area in the northern part of the Yoshino River midstream, and is served by the Kintetsu Yoshino Line. It produces rice, pears, and vegetables, and tea cultivation is also thriving. Timber is produced from the mountains, and the lumber industry is also active. Area: 38.10 km2 .
