Seleucus [I] - Seleucus
The first king of the Kingdom of Syria (reigned 305-281 BC). Commonly known as Nicator (meaning "the victorious one"). Founder of the Seleucid dynasty. A subordinate of Alexander the Great, he gained Babylonia after Alexander's death and founded the kingdom. He campaigned as far as India, defeating Antichotus I at the Battle of Ipsus in 301 BC and Lysimachus at the Battle of Corupedion in 281 BC, and came to dominate most of Western Asia. He is known for building many cities (Seleucia).
