Year of death: Tenpyo Hoji 3.7.5 (759.8.2) Year of birth: Unknown The wife of Emperor Shomu in the 8th century. Also known as Lady Tachibana. She was the granddaughter of Tachibana Michiyo and the daughter of Sai. In February 737, she was promoted from no rank to Junior Third Rank, and it seems that she became the wife of Shomu around this time. When she was promoted from Senior Third Rank to Junior Second Rank in April 738, she was called Lady Tachibana. In the intercalary August of 757, two months after the Tachibana Naramaro Rebellion, she and her family changed their surnames to Hirooka, but at the time she was Senior Second Rank. It seems that she had no children with Shomu. In 751 and 752, she donated furniture, the Great Prajnaparamita Sutra, the Medicine Sutra, and other items to Horyuji Temple, and donated a knife and a kohoku sutra to the Great Buddha's eye-opening ceremony in 752. It is said that Fukoji Temple in Soekami County, Yamato Province, was built by Konakachi, so she must have been a devout believer in Buddhism.
