Solid circuit

In 1959, J.S. Kilby of Texas Instruments applied for a basic patent for the IC. In the same year, the company announced the first IC called "solid circuit," while in 1960, Westinghouse Electric announced "molecular electronics," both of which could be considered the prototype of modern ICs.

The biggest problem in constructing circuits on the same semiconductor substrate is electrically isolating each circuit element that constitutes the circuit.
