On the other hand, Kuhn discovered that imipramine (trade names: Imidol, Tofranil), which was developed as a sedative, had the power to improve depression, and so-called tricyclic antidepressants such as its derivatives desmethylimipramine (trade names: Pertofuran), amitriptyline (trade names: Adepress, Lantron, Tryptanol), nortriptyline (trade name: Noritren), protriptyline, and doxepin appeared one after another. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors increase the activity of serotonin and catecholamines, which are neurostimulants in the brain. ...
