Karimata Strait - Selat Karimata

A strait in western Indonesia between Kalimantan (Borneo) and the islands of Belitung and Bangka. It connects the South China Sea and the Java Sea. The water is generally shallow, and there are many small islands and coral reefs, especially around Belitung Island. For this reason, the main shipping route is along Kalimantan, where the water is relatively deep. Ocean currents are heavily influenced by seasonal winds. The Karimata Islands, consisting of about 60 islands including Karimata Island, are scattered in the northeastern part of the strait.

インドネシア西部、カリマンタン（ボルネオ島）とビリトゥン、バンカ両島との間の海峡。南シナ海とジャワ海を結ぶ。水深は全体的に小さく、とくにビリトゥン島沿いには数多くの小島やサンゴ礁がある。このため航路は、比較的水深の大きいカリマンタン沿いが主となる。海流は季節風の影響を大きく受ける。海峡の北東部にはカリマタ島をはじめ約60の島からなるカリマタ諸島が散在する。
