Ferrari, Giuseppe

Ferrari, Giuseppe
Born: March 7, 1811, Milan
Died June 2, 1876. Rome, Italy. Philosopher and politician. Graduated from the University of Pavia in 1831, he initially devoted himself to studying G. Vico, then went to France, where he obtained a degree from the University of Paris in 1840, and became an assistant professor at the University of Strasbourg in 1848. He returned to Italy in March 1848 to join the Milan Uprising, but did not agree with the ideas of G. Mazzini and others who prioritized national unification over social revolution, and so returned to France. In 1859, as the Risorgimento movement came to an end, he returned to Italy and advocated the realization of a federal system rather than unification, but to no avail. After 1860, he was elected as a member of parliament and lectured on political philosophy at universities throughout Italy. His main work is Filosofia della Rivoluzione (1851), or Philosophy of Revolution.
