Mount Omoto

A mountain in the northern part of Ishigaki Island, Okinawa Prefecture. It is the highest peak in the prefecture, with an elevation of 526 meters. The entire mountain has relatively steep slopes and is made up of ancient metamorphic rocks of the Tsumuru Formation, which are presumed to be Paleozoic. It is made up of natural subtropical forest vegetation and is included in Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park, with the northern foothills designated as a special conservation area. It is the source of the Nagura River and Miyara River, and there is a hiking trail from the village of Omoto. It is also considered the sacred mountain of Ishigaki Island.

沖縄県石垣島の北部にある山。県の最高峰で、標高526メートル。全山、比較的急峻(きゅうしゅん)な斜面で、古生層と推定されるツムル層の古期変成岩類からなる。亜熱帯性の樹林の自然植生からなり、西表石垣国立公園に含まれ、北麓は特別保護地区に指定されている。名蔵(なぐら)川や宮良(みやら)川の源となり、於茂登村落から登山道がある。また、石垣島の霊山とされている。
