In 1796 (the first year of the Jiaqing era), religious forces rose up in succession in various parts of Hubei in response to the sudden oppression of believers, including the execution of Xu officials, and the following year, religious forces in Sichuan also rose up in arms, leading to a major uprising (the Jiaqing White Lotus Rebellion). The religious forces linked up with the Miao (Miao) rebels in Guizhou and Hunan, and took advantage of the weakness of the government forces, so their power was extremely strong. …
