A city in the western foothills of the Apennine Mountains, Umbria, Perugia Province, central Italy. It is located about 100 km north-northeast of Rome, at the southern end of the central plateau. Founded by the Etruscans in the 7th century BC, it became a Roman territory in 241 BC, and defeated Hannibal in 217 BC.
