… In addition to the tilt of the land mass, lava erupts along faults caused by crustal movement on the western edge of the peninsula, creating lava plateaus everywhere and raising the elevation of the watershed. The watershed mountain ranges are called, from north to south, the Hijaz Mountains (1000m class), the Asir Mountains (2000m class), and the Yemen Mountains (3000m class), with the highest peak being Mount Hadur Ḥaḍūr (Nabi Shuaib) (3760m) in the Yemen Mountains. The Hadramaut Mountains on the southern edge of the peninsula, which extend east from the Yemen Mountains, also form a north-south watershed and reach an elevation of 2000m. …
