Paranthura japonica (English name)

Japanese: ウミナナフシ（英語表記）Paranthura japonica

Class Malacostraca, Order Isopoda, Family Anthuridae. Body length is about 1cm. Body is elongated and cylindrical. Head and 1st to 7th thoracic segments are relatively large, but 1st to 5th abdominal segments are fused except for the sides, and are only one thoracic segment long. They are found under stones and at the base of seaweed along the coast from Hokkaido to Kyushu. Malacostraca live from the intertidal zone to the deep sea at depths of over 2000m, and many species are as small as 2 to 3mm in body length. (→Crustacea, Arthropods, Isopoda, Malacostraca)

軟甲綱等脚目ウミナナフシ科 Anthuridae。体長 1cm内外。体は細長い円筒形。頭部，第1～7胸節は比較的大きいが，第1～5腹節は側部を残して融合し，1胸節分の長さしかない。北海道から九州まで，沿岸の石の下や海藻の根もとにみられる。ウミナナフシ科は潮間帯から水深 2000m以深の深海にまですみ，体長 2～3mmという微小種も多い。（→甲殻類，節足動物，等脚類，軟甲類）
