A character in Joruri and Kabuki. Hanshichi, a swordsmith from Horikawa, Kyoto, and Ohana, a prostitute from Izutsuya, fall in love. Hanshichi trades the famous sword "Nobukuni" that he has been entrusted with from his aunt for a cheap one to make money, and the two elope to Osaka. Feeling responsible, the aunt commits seppuku. Chikamatsu Monzaemon adapted the play as "Nagamachi Onna no Harakiri" (Nagamachi Woman's Harakiri), and it premiered in 1712.
