Chungju - Chungju

It is the central city of the northern region of North Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It has an area of ​​983.95 km2 and a population of 217,510 (2000). It was elevated from a town to a city in 1956. It was merged with Jungwon-gun in 1995. It is located in the center of the Chungju Basin, which is a topography with a high south and low north. Its agricultural specialties include apples and yellow tobacco. It developed as a distribution center for agricultural products and a key point for inland transportation. The Chungju Fertilizer Factory, food processing, ceramics, flour milling, and tobacco industries are thriving in the city. The city is home to Chungju College of Technology and the Chungju branch of Konkuk University, and the Ganjin Cultural Festival, held every October around Dangeumdae on the coast of the Namhan River, is famous. During the festival, events such as folk music, folk dance, and poetry competitions are held.

韓国（大韓民国）、忠清北道北部地方の中心都市。面積983.95平方キロメートル、人口21万7510（2000）。1956年、邑(ゆう)（町）から市に昇格。95年、中原郡と統合。ほぼ南高北低の地形を形成する忠州盆地の中心部に位置する。農業特産物としてリンゴ、黄色タバコがある。農産物の集散地として、また内陸交通の要地として発達した。忠州肥料工場をはじめ食品加工、陶磁器、製粉、たばこ工業が盛んである。市内には忠州工業専門大学、建国大学忠州分校があり、南漢江の沿岸にある弾琴台(だんきんだい)を中心に毎年10月に開かれる干靭(かんじん)文化祭は有名である。祭りの時期には民俗音楽、民俗舞踊、詩文の競作大会などの行事が行われる。
