Died: c. 1341. Grand Duke of Verona-Lithuania, Lithuania (reigned 1316-41). Grandfather of W. Jagiellonian (King Wladyslaw II Jagiellonian), founder of the Polish Jagiellonian dynasty. Reunited the Principality of Lithuania, which had been torn apart by the advance of the Teutonic Knights, and established the Grand Duchy by integrating Russian regions, including the Kievan Rus's territories. Considering the pagan traditions of Lithuania and the existence of Russian subjects who were Greek Orthodox, he avoided conversion to Catholicism and implemented a tolerant religious policy. Demonstrating excellent domestic policy skills, he built cities such as the capital Vilnius and promoted trade activities. For his great achievements, he was called "King of Lithuania and Russia." While he contacted the Pope with the aim of opposing the Teutonic Knights, he also drew close to Poland by marrying his daughter Aldona to Casimir III (the Great), paving the way for a personal union between the two countries.

リトアニア大公 (在位 1316～41) 。ポーランドのヤギェウォ朝の創始者 W.ヤギェウォ (ポーランド王ウワディスワフ2世ヤギェウォ ) の祖父。ドイツ騎士団の進出下に分裂したリトアニア公国を再統一し，キエフ公国領をも含むロシア諸地域を統合して大公国を建設。リトアニアの異教的伝統とギリシア正教徒のロシア系臣民の存在を考慮してカトリック教への改宗を回避し，寛容な宗教政策を実施した。すぐれた内政的手腕を発揮し，首都ビリニュスなどの諸都市を建設して通商活動を推進。その偉業により「リトアニアとロシアの王」と称された。ドイツ騎士団と対抗する目的でローマ教皇と接触するかたわら，その娘アルドーナをカジミエシ3世 (大王)にとつがせてポーランドに接近し，両国の同君連合への道を開いた。
