Also called a brick or kururi. Used for threshing Indian-style rice, wheat, soybeans, etc. It first appeared in Japanese literature after the Genroku period, but it was introduced from China, and the "tang" in the name is derived from this. It became less common after the appearance of rotary threshers, but was still in use in some areas until some time after the war. It consists of a 1.5-2m long handle with a thick plate or iron frame about 40-70cm long and 10cm wide attached parallel to the handle so that it can rotate. 連枷(れんが),くるりともいう。大唐稲(インド型の稲)や麦,あるいは大豆などの脱穀に用いる。日本で文献に現れてくるのは元禄以降であるが,中国から伝えられたもので,名称の〈唐〉はそのことに由来している。回転脱穀機の出現以降少なくなったが,一部の地域では戦後しばらくまで使われていた。構造は,長さ1.5~2mの柄の先端に,長さ40~70cm,幅10cm程度の厚い板または鉄製のわくを,回転できるように柄と平行に取り付けたものである。
