〘名〙① 連歌や俳諧などで句を付ける時の契機とする語句で、前句の中のことば、題材や心情と関係のあるもの。寄合が用語、題材など形式的なものに関係があるのに対して、もっと広く情趣、心情など内容的なものまでをさす。付物(つけもの)。※十問最秘抄(1383)「又、付合は十方より取り寄るべき也、皆人近日一方よりよるやうに見ゆ、しかるべからず」② 連歌や俳諧や雑俳などで、前句に次の句を付けること。前句に対して付句(つけく)の付け方の意味から前句と付句を総称していう。※長短抄(1390頃)中「連歌の付合様々也、注するに及ばず」③ 遊里で、遊女が客のことばや心に相応の挨拶(あいさつ)を返すこと。※評判記・難波鉦(1680)四「前句付合(ツケアイ)関言葉」
