In the military system of the samurai class, a unit served as a guard for the commander. The Edo Shogunate's Koshogumi were initially on duty in the Kuroshoin Seikokan, and were called Hanabatakeban because there was a flower garden in front of the garden. According to the Tobu Jitsuroku, in February 1632 (Kan'ei 9), Honmaru (Tokugawa Iemitsu) Hanabatakeban No. 6 and Nishimaru (Hidetada) Hanabatakeban No. 6 were organized, each consisting of 20-30 people. From August 1643, they were on duty in Momijikan, and their names were changed. After that, the number of people in each group was fixed at 50, but the number of groups changed slightly, from 6 to 10 groups, with one banto and one kumicho for each group.
