North side diagonal line - Kitagawa Shasen

Japanese: 北側斜線 - キタガワシャセン

Among the building height restrictions set forth in the Building Standards Act, this regulation applies to Type 1 and Type 2 Low-rise Residential Zones and Type 1 and Type 2 Medium- to High-rise Residential Zones. When viewed from the side, the exterior wall of a building facing north must be set back from the bottom above a certain height, as if the space were cut out by a diagonal line. The purpose is to maintain sunlight and ventilation on the north side of the site.

建築基準法で定められた建物の高さ制限のうち、第1種・第2種低層住居専用地域と第1種・第2種中高層住居専用地域に適用される規定。建物を真横から見たとき、北側に面した建物の外壁は、ある一定の高さ以上の部分では、空間を斜線で切り取ったように、その下側より引っ込んでいなければならないということ。北側の敷地の日当たり、風通しを維持するのが目的とする。
