Qara Khitai (English spelling)

Japanese: カラ･キタイ（英語表記）Qara Khitāy

A Central Asian dynasty ruled by the Khitans of Mongolian origin. It was founded in 1132 by Yelu Daseki, a member of the royal family of the Liao dynasty, which also ruled over parts of China, and occupied the Eastern Kara-Khanid dynasty's capital, Berasagun, in 1132. In 1141, the dynasty defeated the combined forces of the Western Kara-Khanid dynasty and the Seljuk dynasty near Samarkand and took control of Western Turkestan as well. However, in 1210, Western Turkestan was taken by the Khwarezmian dynasty, and in 1211-12, the country was taken by Kuchluk, a Naiman tribe who had fled from Mongolia, and the dynasty was destroyed just 80 years after its founding.

モンゴル系キタイ人を支配者とする中央アジアの王朝。1132‐1211∥12年。西遼ともいう。中国の一部をも領有した遼王朝の王族の出身者である耶律大石（やりつだいせき）が1132年，東カラ･ハーン朝の首都ベラサグンを占領して建国。1141年には，西カラ･ハーン朝とセルジューク朝の連合軍をサマルカンドの近郊に撃破して西トルキスタンをも支配下に収めた。しかし1210年ホラズム･シャー朝に西トルキスタンを奪われ，また1211∥12年，モンゴリアから亡命して来たナイマン部のクチュルクに国を奪われて建国後わずか80年で滅びた。
