Osteospermum genus

...The genus Di (two) morphe (shape) theca (wrap) is derived from the fact that the tubular flowers have wings, while the ray flowers are rod-shaped. Recently, a perennial flowering plant called Dimorphotheca has been sold commercially as a potted plant, but this is O. ecklonis Norl., a species of the Osteospermum genus closely related to Dimorphotheca. There are about 70 species in this genus in South Africa, and the flowers are similar to Dimorphotheca, with white or purple ray flowers, but the seeds are not winged.
