Shahrastani (English spelling) al-Shahrastānī

Japanese: シャフラスターニー - しゃふらすたーにー（英語表記）al-Shahrastānī

A theologian of the Ashari sect of Islam. Born in Khorasan, Iran, he studied theology under Abu Qasim Ansari (?-1118). He traveled widely through the Islamic world and taught at the Nizamiyya Masjid in Baghdad for three years, where he gained a reputation as the foremost scholar of his time. His most famous work, The Book of Sects and Sects, includes descriptions of the history of various sects within Islam, as well as the various schools of philosophy in Christianity, India, and ancient Greece. The book cites many sources that are lost and no longer in existence today, making it a valuable document in comparative religion and the history of Islamic religion.

イスラム教アシュアリー派の神学者。イランのホラサーンに生まれ、アブー・カーシム・アンサーリー（？―1118）から神学を学んだ。イスラム世界を広く旅し、3年間バグダードのニザーミーヤ学院で教え、当代随一の学者との名声を得た。代表作の『諸宗派と諸分派の書』は、イスラム教内部の諸派の歴史をはじめ、キリスト教やインド・古代ギリシアの哲学の諸流派などの記述を含んでいる。同書は、今日では散逸して現存しない資料を多数引用しており、比較宗教学、イスラム宗教史の貴重な文献とされている。
