A national policy company with the purpose of wartime control of electricity. Abbreviated as Nippatsu. Established in 1939, Nippatsu took over thermal power plants, substations, and transmission lines from 33 related electric power companies. In 1941, it also integrated hydroelectric power plants, taking sole control of power generation and transmission, and in 1942 completed the wartime electricity system with nine distribution companies that merged 74 major companies. After Japan's defeat, it was designated as a place to eliminate centralization, and in 1951, under the Electric Power Business Reorganization Order, it was reorganized into nine regional electric power companies along with the nine distribution companies.
