Authoring - Authoring (English spelling)

It is the creation of multimedia content, web pages, software, etc., by editing different types of data such as images, videos, audio, and text, essentially without programming. Compared to production using a programming language, it is characterized by the intuitive work that can be done using a mouse or other tools. Programming may also be used as a complement to enhance expressiveness. The programming language used in such cases is called an "authoring language." A typical example is "SMIL" (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language), which is used to display multimedia content on a web browser.

Applications that perform authoring are called "authoring software" or "authoring tools," and a typical example is "Adobe Director." Another example is Microsoft's "PowerPoint," which is used for corporate presentations. Although it differs from the original meaning, the process of converting video data into a DVD title (DVD-Video) is also generally called authoring. Some of this software also includes editing elements, such as creating and adding menus and opening movies.

画像、動画、音声、テキストなど異なる種類のデータを編集して、原則的にはプログラミングを行わずに、マルチメディアコンテンツやウェブページ、ソフトウェアなどを制作すること。プログラム言語（プログラミング言語）を使う制作に比べると、マウスなどを使って直感的に作業ができるのが特徴である。また、表現力を高めるために、補完的にプログラミングを利用する場合もある。その際に使用するプログラム言語を「オーサリング言語」とよぶ。ウェブブラウザ上でマルチメディアコンテンツを表現するための「SMIL(スマイル)」（Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language）はその代表例である。

　オーサリングを行うアプリケーションは「オーサリングソフト」または「オーサリングツール」とよばれ、代表的なものとして「アドビディレクターAdobe Director」がある。また、企業のプレゼンテーション等に利用されているマイクロソフト社の「パワーポイントPowerPoint」もその一つである。本来の意味とは異なるものの、動画のデータをDVDタイトル（DVD-Video）に変換する作業も、一般的にはオーサリングとよばれる。そのソフトのなかには、メニューやオープニングムービーを作成・追加するなど、編集的な要素を含むものもある。
