Ichimousaku - One crop

Cultivation of one type of crop in a paddy field or field only once a year. A cultivation term for double cropping, where two crops are grown in a year, and multiple cropping, where three or more crops are grown in a year. In Hokkaido, the northern Tohoku region, and highland areas, there are many paddy fields and fields that are single-cropped due to the cool weather and short summers, and the cold weather and snowfall in autumn and winter. Even if the climate allows for double cropping, single cropping may be used in winter due to poor drainage and labor shortages. In particular, in recent years, planting in paddy fields has become earlier, making second cropping (double cropping) difficult, and because the profit from second crops is low, single cropping has become more common even in warm areas where the climate allows double cropping or multiple cropping.

水田や畑に、1種類の作物を1年間に1回だけ栽培すること。1年に2作する二毛作、3作以上する多毛作に対する栽培用語。北海道や東北地方北部、および高冷地などでは、冷涼で夏が短く、また秋冬は寒冷にすぎたり、積雪などのために、一毛作の水田や畑が多い。また、気候的には二毛作が可能でも冬期は排水不良や労働力不足などのために一毛作とすることもある。とくに近年、水田では作付けが早期化したため、裏作（二毛作）が困難になり、また裏作物の収益が低いなどのために、気候的に二毛作、多毛作が可能な暖地でも、一毛作が多くなった。
