Khutbah (English spelling)

Japanese: フトバ（英語表記）khuṭbah

A sermon given by Muslims at Friday noon prayer or during special festival prayers. It begins with invoking the name of God and asking for God's grace on the sovereign. The khutba often includes a political statement, such as intentionally omitting the sovereign's name to express the independence of a subordinate sovereign. The person who performs the khutba is called a khaṭīb.

イスラム教徒の金曜日の正午の礼拝や特別の祭典の礼拝になされる説教。まず神の御名を唱え，主権者への神の恩寵を願う文句から始る。この際，主権者の名を意図的に削除して下位の主権者が独立を表明するなど，フトバに政治的な主張を伴うことがしばしばあった。なおフトバを行うものをハティーブ khaṭībという。
