A sermon given by Muslims at Friday noon prayer or during special festival prayers. It begins with invoking the name of God and asking for God's grace on the sovereign. The khutba often includes a political statement, such as intentionally omitting the sovereign's name to express the independence of a subordinate sovereign. The person who performs the khutba is called a khaṭīb. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
