…Beginning with a field study of howler monkeys on Barro Colorado Island in Panama in 1932, he conducted vigorous field surveys of spider monkeys, gibbons, orangutans, and other animals in Panama, Thailand, Sumatra, India, and other places by 1950, and made great efforts to elucidate the societies and behavior of primates. Just before the start of World War II, he released rhesus monkeys imported from India on Cayo Santiago Island near Puerto Rico, and conducted research on their sexual behavior.
