Occidental [mountain range] - Occidental

...the two rivers that flow from the Andes to the Pacific Ocean are the Esmeraldas River in the north and the Guayas River in the south; the latter has a fertile delta, and Guayaquil, the country's largest commercial city, is located near its mouth. The Oriental and Occidental mountain ranges of the Andes run through the center of the country, and they connect in various places to form about 10 mountain basins. Cities such as Quito and Cuenca have developed in these basins.
