...The Drama Reform Association achieved the first stage of sophistication by performing a play for the Emperor at the residence of Foreign Minister Inoue Kaoru on April 26, 1887, but the Ito Cabinet collapsed and the association disappeared due to lack of ties with the general public. Later, in 1888, Okano Shisui and others organized the Japan Engei Kyofukai, which was further reorganized as the Japan Engei Kyokai, and accelerated the construction of reformed theaters.
