When the plein air Western painting group Hakuba-kai, which was formed around Kuroda Seiki, was dissolved in 1911 (Meiji 44), the Hakuba-kai was formed in March the following year by its leading members Nakazawa Hiromitsu, Yamamoto Morinosuke, Miyake Katsumi, Sugiura Hisui, Kobayashi Kanekichi, Atomi Yasushi, and Okano Sakae, and held its first exhibition at Ueno Takenodai in June of the same year.
