Arya Association - Aryakyokai

...Due to the pressure from the Western powers and the sense of crisis over the influx of Christian and other religious ideas, various restorationist religious reform movements developed in major Indian cities in the 19th century. The Arya Samaj (Arya Society) played a part in this movement, and was founded in Bombay in 1875 at the suggestion of Dayananda Sarasvati, and had a particularly large influence not only in the Bombay area but also in the states of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. As can be seen from the famous slogan "Return to the Vedas," this society stressed that the four Vedas were the source of truth, and that only by basing itself on them could one obtain wisdom that would never be mistaken.
