Kakunosuke Oyama

...He was a samurai of the Satsuma Domain during the Meiji Restoration and the first governor of Kagoshima Prefecture. He was the second son of Yokoyama Zensuke, a samurai of the Satsuma Domain, and inherited the Oyama family. He was called Kakunosuke. In 1859 (Ansei 6), he was one of the 48 people who signed a letter of blood oath to Shimazu Tadayoshi, the lord of the domain, by members of the Seichugumi. During the Teradaya Incident, he suppressed the patriots under the orders of Shimazu Hisamitsu, and was also active in the movement to overthrow the shogunate. During the Boshin War, he became a staff officer of the Oshu Chinbu General Government. During the domain government reforms in 1869 (Meiji 2), he became the director of the inspection bureau, then the chief counselor of Kagoshima Prefecture, and after serving as a governor, he became governor in 1874. At the local officials' conference in 1875, he criticized the establishment of the Minkai, and had special measures approved for the issuance of Kinroku public bonds for Kagoshima samurai.

…幕末維新期の薩摩藩士，鹿児島県初代県令。薩摩藩士横山善助の次男で大山家を継ぐ。格之助と称した。1859年(安政6)，誠忠組のメンバーが藩主島津忠義に血誓の請書を出した署名48人の一人で，寺田屋事件では，島津久光の命で志士の鎮圧にあたり，また，倒幕運動で活躍した。戊辰戦争では奥羽鎮撫総督府参謀となる。69年(明治2)の藩政改革では監察局総裁，ついで鹿児島県大参事，権令を経て74年県令。75年の地方官会議では民会の設置を批判し，金禄公債発行に際しては鹿児島士族への特別措置を認めさせた。…
