Japan Federation of Employers' Associations - Nihon Keieisha Dantairenmei
Founded in 1948, Nikkeiren is a national organization of business leaders dealing with labor issues. Its abbreviation is Nikkeiren. It was one of the four business organizations along with the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nissho), and the Japan Association of Corporate Executives. It is a federation of regional and industry-specific organizations. Its predecessor was the Japan Federation of Employers' Associations, which was formed in 1947 with the Kanto Employers' Association, which was founded in 1946, at its core. While Keidanren was in charge of the economy in general, Nikkeiren was mainly involved in information gathering and public relations activities centered on labor issues, with the aim of maintaining cooperation among business leaders regarding labor measures. For this reason, Nikkeiren announced guidelines for wage increases once a year before the spring wage increase struggle, and in the 1970s it advocated the "productivity standard principle," which stated that wage increases should be limited to the increase rate of productivity (national average, industry average, or the company's own projected productivity). In May 2002, it merged with Keidanren to become the Japan Business Federation.
