Workers' control

Japanese: 労働者管理 - ろうどうしゃかんり（英語表記）workers’ control

It is a general term for the idea and movement that seeks for workers to independently decide and implement the management and operation methods at each level, from the workplace, company, industry, and even the national economy, through labor unions and other organizations. It is also called workers' self-management, or simply self-management. In a broad sense, it refers to both the efforts to erode the management authority of capitalists in workplaces and companies under capitalism and expand the area of worker self-determination = autonomy, and the efforts in which workers take on management at each level as management bodies under a publicized economic system, but in the narrow sense, the former is clearly called worker control and the latter is clearly called worker management.

職場，企業，産業さらには国民経済に至る各レベルでの管理･運営のあり方について，労働者が労働組合などを通して主体的に決定しその執行をみずから担うことを追求する思想と運動の総称であり，労働者自主管理workers’ self‐management，または単に自主管理ともいう。広義には，資本主義のもとで職場･企業における資本家の経営権限を侵食し，労働者による自主決定＝自治の領域を拡充していく営みと，公有化された経済体制のもとで労働者が管理主体として各レベルの運営を担う営みの双方をさすが，狭義には前者を労働者統制とし，後者を労働者管理として峻別する。
