An anemometer used to measure weak wind speeds. Ordinary anemometers are designed to measure strong winds, so they cannot measure very weak winds. For this reason, wind cups and wind wheels are made small and lightweight, and friction on the rotating shaft is minimized. Hot wire anemometers, which use the fact that a heated object drops in temperature when exposed to wind, and ultrasonic anemometers, which use the fact that the propagation speed of sound waves in the air depends on the wind speed, are excellent anemometers, but they have problems such as being inconvenient to use and expensive.

弱い風速の測定に用いられる風速計。普通の風速計は強い風を測定するように作られているので，ごく弱い風を測定することができない。そのため風杯や風車を小型軽量化し，その回転軸の摩擦をできるだけ小さくするようにしたものが用いられる。熱せられた物体に風が当たると温度が下がることを利用した熱線風速計や，空気中の音波の伝搬速度が風速に依存することを利用した超音波風速計は微風計としてすぐれたものであるが，取扱いが不便であったり，価格が高いなどの問題がある。
