Founded in 1914 by Ohara Magosaburo as the Ohara Shonokai Agricultural Research Institute (the first director was Kondo Mantaro, a grain scientist), it was renamed the Ohara Agricultural Research Institute in 1929. It is located in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. As a purely agricultural research institute, it has produced many outstanding research results. After Okayama University was founded, it was donated free of charge.
