Hermit crab - Oniyadokari

Japanese: オニヤドカリ - おにやどかり
Hermit crab - Oniyadokari
A large hermit crab of the family Pagurusidae in the class Crustacea, with a carapace length of up to 5 cm (illustration). In the waters off Japan, this is a typical hermit crab that lives on rocky reefs at depths of 10 to 50 m. It is often caught in bottom gill nets for spiny lobsters, but on coral reefs it can be collected from the water's edge at low tide during spring tides. It is mostly found in the shells of Turban Shells in Honshu, and Turban Shells in the south. The cheliped legs are cylindrical and bilaterally symmetrical. Both the cheliped legs and ambulatory legs are characterized by numerous circular transverse stripes bordered by long setae.
