Tsugumasa Ohara

Japanese: 大原紹正 - おおはらつぐまさ
Tsugumasa Ohara

...After the 7th lord Hasegawa Tadataka in 1738 (Genbun 3), he was stationed in Takayama all the time. In 1777 (An'ei 6), during the 12th lord Ohara Tsugumasa's reign, he was promoted to Hida County Magistrate due to his achievements in land surveys, and he served until the end of the Edo period. The salary of the Hida County Magistrate was 400 straw bales, and he was assigned to azalea farm at Edo Castle. ...

From Hida Province

...A land survey carried out from 1694 to the following year showed a total rice yield of 44,469 koku. A later land survey carried out by the magistrate Ohara Tsugumasa in 1773-74 (An'ei 2-3) showed the yield had increased to 55,500 koku, but this figure was still extremely low compared to the 415 villages, 15,822 houses, and 84,780 people (1843) in the province. The low agricultural productivity shown here gives Hida various characteristics in the early modern period.
