Since then, he exhibited works that hinted at the direction of modern Japanese painting, such as “Jai,” which incorporated Western-style shading and color sense, “Shurado Emaki,” based on research into Yamato-e painting, and “Ohara no Tsuyu,” a so-called hazy style that could be described as a line-less drawing technique that uses color to process space.
