Yokoteyama

Japanese: 横手山 - よこてやま

A volcano on the border between Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai District, Nagano Prefecture and Rokugo Village, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture. It is 2,305m above sea level. It is the highest peak in the Shiga Highlands and is located at the southeastern end of the mountain. From the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains, including Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane and Mt. Asama to the south, and in winter you can see frost-covered trees. The mountain is made of andesite, with steep slopes on the north and south sides and gentle slopes on the east and northwest sides. After World War II, Shiga Highlands became famous as one of the centers of tourism development. A ski resort was opened on the northwest side, and a lift runs from Kumanoyu to the summit, and hiking and ski tours are available to Kusatsu and Manza via Shibu Pass (2,172m) to the southeast.

長野県下高井郡山ノ内町と群馬県吾妻（あがつま）郡六合（くに）村との境にある火山。標高2305m。志賀高原の最高峰でその南東端に位置し，山頂からは南の草津白根山，浅間山ほか四周の山々の眺望が雄大で，冬季には樹氷もみられる。安山岩からなる山で，山体の北と南側は急斜面，東と北西側は緩斜面をなす。第2次大戦後，志賀高原の観光開発が進んで以来その一中心として有名になった。北西側にスキー場が開かれて熊ノ湯から山頂付近までリフトが通じ，南東の渋峠(2172m)を経て草津，万座方面へハイキングやスキーツアーもできる。
