Born July 19, 1960. A competitive swimmer in high school. In 1982, she swam 35km across the Straits of Dover in 9 hours and 32 minutes, the first officially recognized record for a Japanese person. In the same year, she became the first woman to successfully cross the Naruto Strait. In 1989, she canoed 3,500km upstream from the Amazon. She is currently active as a sports advisor.
