A group of fan merchants in the Middle Ages. From the Muromachi and Sengoku periods through the early modern period, this group still combined manufacturing and sales. As seen in the "Teikin Orai" (Teikin Orai), the fans made by Kidono Komai of Takatsukasa Street have been famous since the early Muromachi period. A monk and nun living near Kidono learned the manufacturing method, and moved to Kasuga Higashinotoin and then to the west of Gojobashi to begin making Miedo fans. Miedo fans are of particularly high quality, and are said to "not compare to those made by Miedo." Other fan shops include Hotei-ya and Daikoku-ya in Kamigyo-Ogawa, Kaga Yuken, Kawauchi-ya, Zen'ami, and Kamakura-ya in Ichijo-Ogawa, and it can be said that the fan troupe was formed when these fan shops were brought together into one organization.
