...According to the provisions of the School Education Law, school nurses are educational staff who work in elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, schools for the blind, schools for the deaf, and schools for the disabled, and who work to protect the health and development of children. Their predecessor was the school nurse, which first began in 1887 in Liverpool, England, as a charitable project run by volunteer nurses, and in 1901 the system of school nurses was established in London. In Japan, the first school nurses were employed at Gifu City Higher Elementary School (Kyomachi Elementary School) in 1906 (nurses were employed at the boarding house of Fukuoka Prefecture Women's Normal School in 1904, but it is said that it is difficult to call them school nurses, given the actual nature of their work). ...
