Osumi-so

Japanese: 大住荘 - おおすみのしょう
Osumi-so

...The first time this site was mentioned as a temple land in an official decree dated December 3, 1158 (Hogen 3), later documents say that it was donated to Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in the 10th century. In 1235 (Kasei 1), a dispute over water use arose between this site and Osumi Manor, a manor owned by Kofuku-ji Temple, located to the northwest of this site. As a result of Kofuku-ji Temple burning down 60 homes of the Iwashimizu Manor's residents and killing two Shinto priests of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, the dispute between the two manors expanded into a dispute between the two powerful families of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine and Kofuku-ji Temple. Both sides pushed the portable shrine and sacred tree and made a strong appeal to the Imperial Court, and the incident escalated into a major dispute, but it was calmed down the following year when the Kamakura Shogunate finally tried to establish shugo and jito in Yamato Province.
