Tokyo Foreign Exchange Market

Japanese: 東京外国為替市場 - とうきょうがいこくかわせしじょう

In a broad sense, the foreign exchange market refers to a place where a wide range of foreign exchange transactions are conducted, including those between banks and their customers, but in a more narrow sense, it is usually referred to as the market where interbank foreign exchange transactions are conducted, and the term Tokyo foreign exchange market is also used in this sense. In Japan, interbank foreign exchange transactions are conducted in Osaka and Nagoya in addition to Tokyo, but the amount of transactions there is small. The Tokyo foreign exchange market as an interbank market is composed of foreign exchange banks, foreign exchange brokers, and monetary authorities (the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Japan).

外国為替市場を広義に解すると，銀行とその顧客との間の外国為替取引を含めて広く外国為替取引が行われる場を意味するが，通常はより狭義に，銀行間interbank為替取引が行われる市場を外国為替市場といい，東京外国為替市場という言葉もこのような意味で用いられる。日本においては，東京のほか大阪や名古屋でも銀行間為替取引が行われるが，そこでの取引は少ない。　銀行間市場としての東京外国為替市場は，外国為替銀行，外国為替ブローカーおよび通貨当局(大蔵省，日本銀行)から構成される。
