…It is a collection of poems based on traditional Tamil literary techniques and fervently praising the devotion to the god Shiva. It was born out of the bhakti movement that spread in South India several centuries after Christ, and was later included in the Shaivite holy book Tirumuṟai (written at the end of the 11th century) by Nambi Andal Nambi. Even today, excerpts from this collection are sung in daily worship in South Indian Shaivite temples.
