[Airport History]
In the early days of aviation from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, aircraft took off and landed on grasslands, riverbanks, squares, and training grounds. However, as aircraft developed, air transport took off in Europe in the early and mid-1920s, and airports with simple runways and passenger facilities appeared. By the end of the 1930s, facilities that would become the prototypes of modern airports were completed one after another in Europe and the United States. In Japan, Osaka Airport (at the mouth of the Kizu River, for both land and sea planes) and Fukuoka Airport (at Najima, Fukuoka Prefecture, opened in 1929) were the first airports to open in the country.
