Ako Misaki

Japanese: 赤穂御崎 - あこうみさき
Ako Misaki

A scenic spot in Ako city, on the southwestern tip of Hyogo prefecture. Pine forests stand close to the rocky coastline, and numerous large and small islands can be seen offshore. It is part of the Setonaikai National Park. Nearby are the Iwatsuhime Shrine, a shrine listed in the Engishiki, inns, and resort facilities. Formerly known as Shinhama village, Shiohama village was established in 1646 (Shoho 3) by Asano Naganao, lord of Ako domain, along with the development of salt fields. After the salt fields were abolished in 1971 (Showa 46), the fields were converted into housing land and parks. It is about 4 km from JR Banshu Ako Station, and there is a bus service available.
