Large persimmon

The former name of a town (Okaki-cho) in Saeki-gun, southwest Hiroshima Prefecture. It is now part of the Okaki-cho district of Etajima City. The former Okaki-cho was incorporated as a town in 1927 (Showa 2). In 1954 (Showa 29), it merged with the villages of Fukae and Hitonose. In 2004 (Heisei 16), it merged with Etajima-cho in Aki-gun, and the towns of Okimi and Noumi in Saeki-gun to become a city, forming Etajima City. It occupies the southern part of Nomi Island (Higashi-Nomi Island) in Hiroshima Bay. It is connected to Kurahashi Island in the east by Hayase Ohashi Bridge, and then connected to Kure City by land via Ondo Ohashi Bridge, and is within the commercial sphere of Kure City. Agriculture in the suburbs is thriving, with carnations and other flowers, mandarin oranges, and vegetables being cultivated. The city also engages in oyster farming and stone quarrying, and has an oil storage base.

広島県南西部、佐伯郡(さえきぐん)にあった旧町名（大柿町(ちょう)）。現在は江田島市(えたじまし)大柿町地区。旧大柿町は1927年（昭和2）町制施行。1954年（昭和29）深江、飛渡瀬(ひとのせ)2村と合併。2004年（平成16）安芸(あき)郡江田島町、佐伯郡の沖美(おきみ)、能美(のうみ)の各町と合併し、市制施行して江田島市となった。広島湾内の能美島南部（東能美島）を占める。東部の倉橋島とは早瀬大橋で結ばれ、さらに音戸(おんど)大橋を経て呉(くれ)市とは陸続きになり、呉市の商圏に入る。近郊農業が盛んで、カーネーションなどの花卉(かき)、ミカン、野菜栽培を行う。またカキなどの養殖漁業、石材の切り出しなども行い、石油備蓄基地もある。
